Participants will receive quick interesting lessons from speakers knowledgeable on their topic. Speakers include: \nSharon Carlson\, retired WMU archivist (protecting photos and documents at home)\nLeah Milowe\, Vicksburg Historical Society Museum Administrator and Curator (local history)\nSusan Kallewaard\, Vicksburg District Library Youth Service Librarian (book recommendations)\nKathy and Bob Brandy\, The Raven Bow string duo (music)\nVicksburg Cultural Arts Center\, art project\nThe Mill at Vicksburg \nJuly 22-26\, 2024\, 9am-12pm. Open to students in 6th-8th grade for the 2024-25 school year. \nCost is $50. DESCRIPTION:Hidden Vicksburg Tours are back after seven long years!\n\nHave you ever wondered what is upstairs in your favorite Vicksburg building\, or in the basement? This is your chance to find out!\nGuided tours will take you to the “hidden” parts of at least 10 historic buildings in downtown Vicksburg.\n\nSome buildings included in the tour:\n200-202 South Main Street\, Vicksburg Maker’s Market/Reuben Smalley Building (Former Vicksburg Fire and Village Hall)\n101 South Main Street\, Paper City Development/McElvain Hotel (Formerly Vicksburg Hotel and Vicksburg Community Center)\n125 East Prairie Street\, Allstate Insurance/Ellsworth Hotel (Once Fred Rapp and Beatie’s Grocery)\n301 South Kalamazoo Street\, Vicksburg Schools Admin. Building/Old E.\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration:  All tours will begin at the registration table at 200 S. Main Street (Vicksburg Maker’s Market). A liability waiver must be signed at registration. Registration will open 30 minutes before your tour time.\nLength of Tour: Tours will last approximately 1.5 hours and include approximately 1.5 miles of walking.\n\nTimes/Group Info: Two tour groups will each set off at 1pm\, 1:30pm\, 2pm\, and 2:30pm. Each group is limited to 10 people.\n\nParking: Public parking is available behind downtown buildings\, on the street\, and at the corner of Washington and Kalamazoo. Please respect businesses and homeowners when choosing parking.\nStay Comfy: Hidden Vicksburg is a walking tour\, including stairs inside buildings. Please dress for comfort!\nTickets: Member Ticket – $12\, General Ticket – $15\n\n\n\n\n\nMEMBER TICKET PRE-SALE: Vicksburg Historical Members will have a chance to purchase tickets beginning August 28. DESCRIPTION:Railroad historian Mark Worrall returns to the Vicksburg Historical Society Speaker Series to present For the Love of Trains on Sunday\, May 18\, 2025 at 2pm in the Vicksburg Historic Village Township Hall building. \nFor the Love of Trains:\nJoin us on a tour of Michigan’s railroad history through early 20th century images. Explore images from this period of traveling spindly logging railroads\, high speed interurbans\, mighty class one lines\, and humble shortlines. Whether under the wires\, pulled by horses\, or pulled by the iron horse\, we will look at the stories behind the images – some rare and lost\, some fun\, some sad\, but all part of the wonderful tapestry of Michigan rail history. \nThe Speaker Series is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged.\nFollow the signs to park on the grass near the building.
