DESCRIPTION:Railroad historian Mark Worrall returns to the Vicksburg Historical Society Speaker Series to present For the Love of Trains on Sunday\, May 18\, 2025 at 2pm in the Vicksburg Historic Village Township Hall building. \nFor the Love of Trains:\nJoin us on a tour of Michigan’s railroad history through early 20th century images. Explore images from this period of traveling spindly logging railroads\, high speed interurbans\, mighty class one lines\, and humble shortlines. Whether under the wires\, pulled by horses\, or pulled by the iron horse\, we will look at the stories behind the images – some rare and lost\, some fun\, some sad\, but all part of the wonderful tapestry of Michigan rail history. \nThe Speaker Series is free and open to the public. They will spend a day learning about military history with historians from the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society. We will explore food from the past\, learn some archiving basics\, and do an art project.\nRegistration is $50\, scholarships may be available.

This year’s tour features figures such as: \n\nJacob Lemon\, one of the area’s early settlers whose life offers a glimpse into the challenges and determination of 19th-century pioneers.\nFanny Bair\, a pioneering woman whose life shaped the early educational and civic fabric of the village.\nO.B. Dunning\, a community leader and businessman whose influence helped shape modern Vicksburg.\n\nTheir stories—and those of seven other fascinating individuals—offer a window into the triumphs\, tragedies\, and everyday moments that define the Vicksburg area’s history. \nLocation: Schoolcraft Township (Vicksburg) Cemetery\,\n333 W.
