Mission

To preserve, advance and disseminate knowledge of the history of the greater Vicksburg area.

Vision

To grow the Historic Village into a regional destination by the development and presentation of family-oriented programs and to pass this unique history and heritage along to future generations in a hands-on educational setting.

To preserve and present Vicksburg’s unique history and heritage for the public’s education and enjoyment. The collections and displays of the Vicksburg Historical Society are comprised of over 20,000 items.

To expand public access to the buildings in the Historic Village and administer use of the buildings as backdrops for displays, exhibits, programs and events.

To collaborate with the local governments, community businesses, organizations, schools, and other interested parties to develop and foster community pride in the Historic Village.

Strategic Plan

The Vicksburg Historical Society Board of Trustees and staff created a thorough strategic planning process during the Spring of 2026.

The strategic plan will be a stepping-stone, guiding the organization with a clear and concise path forward, helping us achieve our goals and objectives. The process will help us understand our priorities and how to execute them.

When looking to the future, the Vicksburg Historical Society will utilize these clear guidelines to help us achieve the following goals. We hope to increase our visibility and attendance for all events. We will strive for sufficient and sustainable funding to support and grow the organization within the community. Improved communication and processes will support a clear and unified direction. Sufficient staff and volunteers will be the goal to optimally execute our mission.

We look forward to being able to work on these goals as an organization and become stronger.
