On July 8th 2026 the Vicksburg Historical Society participated in the nationwide celebration by reading the Declaration of Independence aloud. The multiple simultaneous readings occurred 250 years after John Nixon first read the document in public in Philadelphia’s State House Yard. Watch our recording here:
