Two Cemeteries – Many Historical Figures
Vicksburg has two cemeteries where many of Vicksburg’s historical figures and families are interred; Vicksburg Cemetery is located on “W” Ave. west of Michigan Avenue in Vicksburg; and Gourdneck Prairie Cemetery is located at Portage Road, south of “V” Ave, east side of the road. The databases for both cemeteries are now downloadable below.
The databases were created by Barb Lee of Vicksburg, Michigan from Vicksburg Historical Society Collections of cemetery created by local volunteers in 1976.
Gould Richardson was also supposedly the first person to be buried in the Vicksburg Cemetery, and Richardson Street is named after him or his family. According to Arle Schneider’s book, A Tale of One Village: Vicksburg, Michigan, 1831-2000, Gould Richardson built the red brick house on Richardson Street that was recently restored. At one time the Historical Society Board toyed with the idea of purchasing the house.
